Equine Assisted Activities is a method of practice used to enhance both life skills and quality of life. Because horses live in the present moment, they are the prefect partner to reflect your thought, feelings, and actions. These attributes are incredibly helpful when learning to enhance problem-solving, critical thinking, effective communication, decision-making, creative thinking, interpersonal relationships, self-awareness, empathy, coping with stress and emotions, trust, leadership, personal boundaries, pressure/release, and teamwork.
The goal of EAA/EFL is to experience the activities that assist you in developing a connection with horses and other humans by interpreting body language. Interacting with horses is silent and requires focus, which means you take on the horse's attribute of living in the present moment. By doing this your open yourself up to a deeper understanding of the life skills listed above and allow for an awakening of the inner self.
All activities are preformed on the ground and only go as fast as you and the horse are comfortable with. The activities range from fun challenges to meditative exercises each with a specific goal in mind. Because this is meant to be experiential, even if everything doesn't go as planned there are still lessons to be learned which in many ways reflects life's challenges. After each session, there is time for reflection and connecting the dots of what was practices and learned. The next step is to apply these learned skills into your everyday life.
